How to make a music snippet video for TikTok and Reels
To make a snippet video of your song, open the Snippet video maker (also at snippet.aden.space), drop the song and its cover, pick a look, drag the window on the waveform to the 10 seconds you want and press Export. You get a 1080x1920 MP4, the 9:16 vertical format that TikTok, Instagram Reels and Stories use. It's free, needs no account, and the video is made in your browser, so the song is never uploaded.
A snippet video is the simplest way to put a song in a vertical feed: your cover, the title, a moving waveform and the best 10 seconds of the track. It won't replace filming yourself, but it gives every release, demo and teaser something to post on the day.
What size should a TikTok or Reels video be?
Vertical, 9:16, at 1080x1920 pixels. One file in that shape works across the main vertical feeds at the time of writing:
| Platform | Shape | Size | Where the app covers the video |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 9:16 | 1080x1920 | Caption and sound along the bottom, buttons down the right |
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | 1080x1920 | Caption along the bottom, buttons down the right |
| Instagram Stories | 9:16 | 1080x1920 | Profile bar at the top, reply bar at the bottom |
| YouTube Shorts | 9:16 | 1080x1920 | Title and channel along the bottom, buttons down the right |
Ten seconds sits well inside every one of their length limits. It's also short enough that people watch to the end and see it loop. TikTok has said that whether people finish a video is one of the signals it uses to recommend it, though no single signal decides where a post goes. More on that in you can't game the algorithm.
How to pick the 10 seconds
The window you pick is the whole pitch. What works for most songs:
- Go for the hook, not the intro. The chorus, the drop, the line people will quote. Nobody scrolls through a slow build to find it.
- Start just before it. Half a bar of lead-in into the hook pulls people in better than starting cold on the first word.
- End on something. The last word of a line, or the first hit of the next section. A clip that cuts mid-word feels broken; one that ends on a turnaround loops cleanly when the feed replays it.
- Count it in bars. One bar of 4/4 lasts 240 divided by the BPM, in seconds.
| BPM | One bar of 4/4 | Bars in 10 seconds |
|---|---|---|
| 90 | 2.67 s | about 3.75 |
| 120 | 2.00 s | 5 |
| 140 | 1.71 s | about 5.8 |
| 170 | 1.41 s | about 7 |
At 120 BPM a four-bar hook (8 seconds) fits with a bar to spare for a lead-in or a tail. At 90 BPM four bars take 10.7 seconds, so pick three bars of the hook and a little lead-in, or start on the strongest line. Don't know the tempo? Find the BPM of the song first.
Make two or three versions with different windows (the hook, the best line of the verse, the drop) and see which one people watch through.
How to make the video with the Snippet video maker
- Open the Snippet video maker. Drop the song and its cover together, or press Choose songs and pick both. The title and artist fill in from the file name (
Artist - Title.mp3). Without a cover, the looks use a gradient. - Pick a look.
- Drag the window on the waveform to the 10 seconds you want, and press play beside it to hear it.
- Click a part of the preview (the disc, the title, the waveform or aden.space) and drag it where you want it. Its bar holds its options: the disc's label (the Aden logo or plain), the title and artist, and the waveform's style (Bars or Mirror) and bar width.
- The sliders button holds the artwork, where you add or swap it, and what shows on the frame.
- Press Export. The MP4 downloads when it's done, usually in a few seconds.
Making video needs Chrome, Edge or Safari 17 or newer.
The looks
Six looks, each built around your cover or your title:
| Look | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Disc | A pressed disc spinning on paper, your cover printed on its face |
| Dark | The same disc on near-black, the cover's colours glowing behind it |
| Card | The cover lifted on black |
| Poster | The cover, full bleed |
| Type | The title as the picture |
| Sheet | A printed sheet with the song's details in rows |
Pick by the artwork. A detailed cover reads best big, in Poster or Card. A dark or moody cover suits Dark. A plain cover, or none at all, leaves room for Type, where the title carries the frame. Use the same look for every song of a release, so the posts read as one campaign.
Several songs at once
Drop all the songs with their covers, or pick them together. A cover named like a song (Song.mp3 and Song.jpg) goes with it. The arrows beside the file name step through the songs and keep the look, so every track on an EP gets a matching video.
Before you post
- Keep text out of the covered edges. The apps lay their own buttons and captions over the video, as in the table above. If the title or the waveform sits under them, drag it toward the middle of the frame.
- Think about the sound. If your song is already out and in TikTok's or Instagram's music library through your distributor, many artists mute the video's own audio and add the official sound over the same 10 seconds, so the post links back to the song. Posted with its own audio, the video gets an "original sound" or "original audio" label instead.
- The aden.space mark. Every look carries a small aden.space mark at its foot, which you can hide. The file's title tag still credits Aden.
Save the song to Aden
Save to Aden saves the song as a track. Without an account, it waits in your browser while you sign up. Once a song is a track in Aden, Export video in the track's menu makes the same video straight from the track (Pro plan and up). On the phone, it opens the share sheet so you can post it or save it to your camera roll.
In ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps, add Snippet videos by Aden (mcp.aden.space/snippet-video) to use it from the chat.
What it can't do
- The clip is always 10 seconds, in the one vertical shape. It isn't a tool for full music videos or landscape YouTube uploads.
- It doesn't film you or add footage. It's your cover, your title and your waveform, moving with the song.
- Making the video needs Chrome, Edge or Safari 17 or newer.
FAQ
What is the best size for a TikTok or Reels video?
1080 by 1920 pixels, in a vertical 9:16 frame. TikTok, Instagram Reels, Instagram Stories and YouTube Shorts all use that shape, so one file works on each of them.
How long should a music snippet be?
Ten seconds is enough to land a hook and short enough that people watch it to the end and see it loop. Pick the chorus, the drop or the most quotable line, start just before it and end on a clean word or beat.
Is my song uploaded when I make a snippet video?
No. The Snippet video maker makes the video on your device, in the browser, and the song is never uploaded. It only goes to Aden if you choose Save to Aden.
Which browsers can make the video?
Making the video needs Chrome, Edge or Safari 17 or newer. In those browsers the MP4 is made on your device and usually downloads within a few seconds.
Is the Snippet video maker free?
Yes, with no account. Each video carries a small aden.space mark at its foot, which you can hide before you export.
