Free download charts explained
Free download charts rank the tracks fans download most from download gates. How the Aden, Hypeddit, Droploud and All charts work, and what they mean.

Free download charts rank the tracks fans downloaded most from free download gates, Top 100 per genre. Charts (also at hype.aden.space and chart.aden.space) puts three of them side by side: the chart of Aden's own download gates, Hypeddit's download chart and Droploud's chart, plus an All chart that ranks all three as one. Every day is kept, and every chart, genre and day has its own address you can share.
What is a free download chart?
A download gate is a page that gives away a file in exchange for something small: an email address, a name, a follow on SoundCloud or Instagram. Artists put remixes, edits, bootlegs and sometimes originals behind them. Platforms that host gates count the downloads and rank the tracks by them.
So a free download chart measures one thing: how many people wanted a file enough to hand over a follow or an email for it. That is a different signal from a streaming chart, and it needs reading differently.
Why do artists, DJs and labels watch them?
- Artists watch them to see whether a free release reached anyone past their own followers, and to see what is landing in their genre right now.
- DJs watch them for tracks to play. Plenty of edits and bootlegs only exist as free downloads, so the charts are one of the few places to find them by genre.
- Labels and A&Rs watch them for producers whose music people go out of their way to get, sometimes before those producers have a release on a label. Scouting with free download charts covers how.
Which charts does Aden collect?
| Tab | What it ranks | Address |
|---|---|---|
| All | Aden, Hypeddit and Droploud ranked together by points | /charts/mixed |
| Aden | Downloads Aden gates gained in the last 7 days | /charts/aden |
| Hypeddit | Hypeddit's download chart, positions as Hypeddit publishes them | /charts/hypeddit-downloads |
| Droploud | Droploud's Top 100 by recent downloads | /charts/droploud |
Aden reads all three once a night and stores each chart, genre and day. The Aden chart only includes gates whose team has turned on its public downloads page; how to get on the free download charts walks through the rest.
For Hypeddit and Droploud, Aden shows the positions as each platform publishes them. We don't know their exact formulas beyond what they make public, so we don't guess at them here. Hypeddit also has a streams chart for smart-link clicks. It doesn't count downloads, so it isn't part of this.
How does the All chart score tracks?
The three platforms count downloads over different windows, so All can't simply add their counts. It ranks by place instead:
- A #1 on any of the charts scores 100 points, a #2 scores 99, down to 1 point for a #100.
- A track on several charts adds its points up.
- On a tie, the track on more charts goes first, then the one with the better place.
A worked example:
| Track | Hypeddit | Droploud | Aden | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Track A | #3 (98) | #10 (91) | 189 | |
| Track B | #1 (100) | 100 | ||
| Track C | #60 (41) | #45 (56) | 97 |
Track A ranks above a track that is #1 on a single chart, because it placed high on two. Each All row shows a column per chart with its place there ("Hypeddit #3"), then its points.
To count as one track across platforms, the title and the first credited artist have to match once gate wording like "Free Download" is stripped and accents and punctuation are folded. When two platforms spell a track differently, it stays two rows rather than risk merging two different tracks.
Platforms, under Filters on the All tab, picks which charts it ranks together. Untick Aden and All becomes Hypeddit and Droploud only.
What do 1D, 7D, 30D and 90D mean?
1D is the day's own chart. 7D, 30D and 90D rank the last 7, 30 or 90 days as one chart, on any chart and genre. Each day, a track scores 100 points for a #1 down to 1 for a #100, and the days are added up.
That rewards staying power. A track that hit #1 for one day and then left the chart has 100 points over 7 days. A track that sat at #20 all week has 81 points a day, 567 in total, and ranks far above it. On All, the chart columns over a period show each track's best place in it, and the count column becomes Points.
What do the arrows and "New" mean?
Arrows show how many places a track moved since the day before. Over 7, 30 or 90 days, they compare with the same period ending the day before. "New" marks a track that wasn't on that chart the day before.
Droploud's country charts
On the Droploud tab, Country shows Droploud's chart in one country, read straight from Droploud. A country chart is always today's, so it has no past days and no arrows. Its 7D, 30D and 90D are Droploud's own download counts over those days, not Aden's points.
Every chart has its own address
Every chart, genre, period and day is its own page, so you can link exactly what you mean:
- /charts/hypeddit-downloads/future-house: today's Future House chart on Hypeddit.
/charts/hypeddit-downloads/future-house/2026-10-27: the same chart on 27 October 2026. Any stored day works.- /charts/mixed/7d: All platforms, every genre, over the last 7 days.
- /charts/mixed/techno/30d: All platforms in Techno over the last 30 days.
- /charts/hypeddit-downloads/drum-bass/90d: Drum & Bass on Hypeddit over the last 90 days.
A link without a day always shows the latest day, so a link you share keeps showing the current chart. Every chart, and every genre and stored day of a chart, is listed under Charts, genres and days below the list.
How to use Charts
- Open Charts. It starts on All.
- Press the title to pick the chart. Filters picks the genres (several rank as one chart), the platforms on All and a country on Droploud; the calendar button picks the period and the day.
- Search narrows the list by track or artist, and lists the tracks that match in the chart's other genres under it.
- The top three sit above the list. Sort the rest by Top, Newest (new on the chart today first) or Climbing (most places gained since the day before first).
- Press the play button beside a cover to play the track in the player. It starts at 0:30, shows the track's waveform to jump around in, skips through the chart and plays the next track when one ends. Space plays and pauses.
- The download button at the end of each row, and in the player bar, opens the track's free download gate. Open the row to go to the track on its platform.
- Share, beside the title, sends the chart to WhatsApp, Instagram or email, copies its link, or downloads it as a picture or a CSV.
The CSV is handy when a label wants the week's chart in a spreadsheet. The picture is the version for a group chat or a story.
What the charts can't tell you
- A download isn't a stream. A chart place says people downloaded a file, not that they played it twice or saved it.
- Gates ask for things. Some fans download to support an artist they follow, not because of the track.
- The genre is the uploader's choice. A track filed under Tech House is Tech House because someone picked it.
- Once a day. Aden reads the charts nightly, so today's downloads show tomorrow.
Read the charts as a list of tracks worth hearing, then listen.
FAQ
What is the difference between Hypeddit's chart and Aden's chart?
Hypeddit's chart ranks gates on Hypeddit, and Aden shows its positions as Hypeddit publishes them. Aden's chart ranks Aden download gates by the downloads they gained in the last 7 days, and only includes gates from teams that turned on their public downloads page. The All chart ranks both together with Droploud.
How are All chart points calculated?
A #1 on Aden, Hypeddit or Droploud scores 100 points and a #100 scores 1. A track on several charts adds them up, so a track at #3 on Hypeddit and #10 on Droploud scores 189 and ranks above a track at #1 on one chart only.
Can I see a free download chart from a past day?
Yes. Every day since the charts started is kept. Pick a day in the day picker, or open a chart's list of genres and days below the list, and every day has its own address you can share.
Why does a track show twice on the All chart?
All matches a track across platforms by its title and first credited artist. When two platforms spell either one differently, it keeps them as two rows rather than risk merging two different tracks.
Does a high place on a free download chart mean a track is popular?
It means many people downloaded it from its gate in that period. That is a real signal, but a download is not a stream, and gates that ask for follows can bring in people who mostly wanted to support the artist. Listen to the track before you read too much into the number.
