How to convert WAV to MP3, JPG to PNG and any media file for free
To convert a file, drop it on the File converter and pick the format you want: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG for audio, PNG, JPG or WebP for images, MP4, WebM or MOV for video. It converts on your own device, in the browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no size limit beyond what your computer can hold. Drop as many files as you like, then download them one by one, as a zip, or drag them straight into your DAW. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark.
How do I convert WAV to MP3?
- Open the File converter, or go straight to WAV to MP3.
- Drop your WAV files on the panel, or press Choose files.
- Next to Audio, keep MP3 selected. Each file converts the moment it lands.
- Press the download button on a row, or Download all for a zip.
MP3s come out at 320 kbps, the highest MP3 bitrate. To make them smaller, open the sliders button at the top of the panel and pick 256, 192 or 128 kbps. A three-minute song at 320 kbps is about 7 MB; at 128 kbps, about 3 MB.
How do I convert MP3 to WAV without losing quality?
Drop the MP3 and pick WAV. The WAV plays exactly what the MP3 plays, written at 24-bit (switch to 16-bit under the sliders button for CDs or a distributor that asks for it).
What a conversion can't do is bring back detail the MP3 already left out. An MP3 throws away sound you are unlikely to hear to save space, and turning it into a WAV only makes the file bigger. If you have the original WAV or AIFF from your DAW, use that. Convert an MP3 to WAV when a tool needs WAV: a sampler, a DJ app, a video editor or a submission form.
How do I convert AIFF or FLAC to WAV or MP3?
The same way: drop the AIFF or FLAC files and pick WAV or MP3. AIFF is what Logic Pro and Pro Tools write by default, and most browsers can't open it. The File converter reads it itself, so AIFF to WAV works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari alike. FLAC is lossless like WAV and AIFF, so FLAC to WAV keeps every bit; WAV to FLAC makes a file roughly half the size with nothing lost.
Which audio format should I use?
| Format | Lossless | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| WAV | Yes | Masters, stems, samples, sending to a mix or mastering engineer, distributors |
| AIFF | Yes | The same as WAV, common on Mac and in Logic Pro |
| FLAC | Yes | Archiving and sharing lossless audio at about half the size |
| MP3 | No | Demos, previews, email, anywhere size matters and every player must play it |
| M4A (AAC) | No | Apple devices, smaller than MP3 at the same quality |
| OGG (Opus) | No | Web players and games |
Upload WAV or FLAC to your distributor: streaming services encode their own lossy copies from your file, and starting from an MP3 means encoding twice.
How do I convert JPG to PNG, or PNG to WebP?
Drop the pictures and pick PNG, JPG or WebP next to Images. The converter also opens AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG and HEIC (HEIC in Safari).
- PNG keeps every pixel and transparency. Use it for logos and artwork with sharp edges.
- JPG is the most widely accepted format for photos and cover art. Transparent areas turn white.
- WebP is smaller than both at the same look and keeps transparency. Use it for your website.
JPG and WebP are saved at 92% quality; the sliders button changes it. For cover art, most distributors ask for a square JPG or PNG of at least 3000 by 3000 pixels.
How do I get the audio out of a video?
Drop the MP4, MOV or WebM and pick MP3 or WAV next to Video: the picture is left out and you get the sound as a song. This is the quickest way to pull a performance out of a phone video, or the audio of a live set out of a stream recording. Try MP4 to MP3.
To change a video's format, pick MP4, WebM or MOV. When the new format can hold the video as it is (MOV to MP4, for example), the picture is copied without being encoded again, so it keeps its quality and takes seconds. If a video is too big to send or post, use the File compressor instead.
Why convert in the browser instead of on a website that uploads?
Most online converters upload your file to their server, convert it there and send it back. That means waiting for an upload, a size limit, and an unreleased song sitting on someone else's computer. The File converter does the work on your device with the codecs built into your browser, plus open-source encoders (LAME for MP3, FDK AAC, libFLAC) that run in WebAssembly where a browser lacks one. Your files never leave your computer, and a big batch is often faster than an upload would be.

Keep your versions in one place
A converted bounce is usually one of many: the rough mix, the master, the radio edit. Aden keeps every version of a track together with its notes, credits and release plan, so the right file is never buried in your downloads folder.
